Being part of a kennel club, we do community outreach/education with our dogs. My three year old Cardigan Welsh Corgi (Brogan) greets this little one yesterday at one of the local grade schools. After sniffing her toes, I had to explain to him usual "complimentary" face/ear/hand cleanings would not be called for.
Cute picture! May I ask what kind of outreach event it was? Was the purpose just to introduce the children to dogs and perhaps teach them how to properly interact with them? Or maybe a "read to a dog" program? Just curious.
This particular event was called Step Into Storybooks. A program to encourage very young children to read. There were a number of different "stations" to get young children and their parents interested in reading through different interactive activities. We were there to encourage children to read stories to the dogs.
Three weeks ago, I and another club member were at the same grade school during their "Self care day" teaching the pre-k through first graders on the proper way to meet a dog and what they should not do if a strange dog runs up to them.
