Spots of leaves

I am new to growing orchids. My one phal has weird yellow and white spots. I cut off the worse leaves and out cinnamon on the cut areas. This orchid was a gift and was dyed purple. Not sure if that is why she is sick. I have isolated this orchid from the others. Help!!!

Those rough spots are remnants of mechanic damage, likely by insects. There is nothing you cannot do about that, nor a reason to worry.

The discoloration on the two excised leaves are indicators of bacterial or fungal infection. Judging by the spot patt run, I suspect water droplets were left sitting on the leaves, providing ideal "incubators" for them.

orchids live long lives, and like the rest of us, get banged around a bit....wear and tear.....but we don't amputate because of a bump or bruise!

by cutting so many leaves, you might have weakened your plant....good luck!

I agree with the others here. The thread "The Phal abuse ends here" is an excellent and very informative thread. And welcome to by the way. I can't say enough about this board. I would have given up long ago if not for the members here. They are super dedicated to the care and well being of orchids, and as equally important, they REALLY know their stuff!

About the only "medicine" for orchids is "tincture of time" ... patience. Best not to fuss over it. In general, I'd recommend a repot into fine bark. But after leaf removal, I think I'd be inclined to just leave it for a month or so... if it's in soggy moss wait to water until it is nearly (but not bone) dry, then flush well under the faucet, let it drain, and then let it sit until nearly dry again. A bit of benign neglect is very useful for orchids.
