Light-colored, textured features on phalaenopsis leaves
Default Light-colored, textured features on phalaenopsis leaves

Hi, all. I bought a couple of phals from a farmer's market a few weeks ago. One has developed a light-colored textured feature in the center of one of its leaves, and is now developing a second on another leaf.

Is this a result of getting too much sun? My phals do get a little direct sun, but it's early in the morning, and it's brief. Additionally, I have two other phals in the same spot that seem to tolerate it fine (though they've been there for much longer, and might be better adapted).

Thanks for your help.

Christian

It does look like too much sun, especially since it is right in a bend where the sun hits it. Phals do not like direct sun. You could put a shear curtain up or move it back.

Thanks, Wintergirl. It's actually behind other phals that don't have issues with the sun which is what surprised me. But my guess is that its leaves are much less accustomed to the sun than my older phals. I'll try the curtain.

I installed some white sheers yesterday. Hopefully this will address the problem. I've had to move a bonsai back from this spot in the past after a few leaves got burned, and one of my phals' leaves are getting to be a very deep green, so I think sun is the problem. Thanks!
