The main problem here is that it's a very niche market -- most of the large orchid producers don't sell the necessary care products (hey, if your plant gets an infection and dies, you're gonna buy another, right?), and most of the agricultural stores don't cater for orchids. So certain products can be extremely difficult to find. It took me almost 3 months to source Imidacloprid here, during which time I was fighting a losing battle against a massive scale infestation (all good on that front now BTW, but it wasn't much fun). And pet-safe slug and snail treatments are completely non-existent - we had to bunny-proof several more areas of the house in order to avoid the type of situation that would make Elmer Fudd extwemely happy.
There are upsides too, though -- pretty much perfect growing weather for cattleyas (my favourites!), no need for expensive lighting systems, and often much cheaper prices than north of the border
