Need a snake repellent
Does anyone have a recommendation for a snake repellent that actually works? I'm tired of going out to pick up one of my orchids only to be startled by a black snake slithering along the bench. Just happened again a couple minutes ago. And the snake has the audacity to look at me like I'm doing something wrong. Excuse me Mr. Snake but I pay the property taxes. Lol
I'm told the ones you buy at the store are a waste of money.. Opinions?
They probably are going after the anoles that hang out on my plants, and although being originally a Northerner, it took some getting used to the anoles, they keep my plants pest free, so I don't have to use pesticides.
But the snakes are too much.
Unfortunately a dog is not an option.
Anything?.

Depending on the snake species, might also be going after small rodents.

The good news is that they are probably harmless Black Racers. The bad news is that if there is a food source there for them, they will probably figure out a way to get to it, repellent or not. My advice, you have a cool little "ecosystem" going there between plants, lizards, and snakes. Enjoy it!

Anything you use to repell the snakes, is going to injure other local fauna. If he's not venomous, I'd just enjoy his company. Snakes are neat.
You can always contact a company that will come out and trap him and relocate him if you are REALLY bothered by him. I think that might be the safest bet for you and the snake and your lizards too.

Harmless? Grab one and get back to me on that! As far as the op repelling snakes, ain't gonna happen. Better to announce your own presence loudly in away the snake can understand. Snakes are very sensitive to vibrations.
They want to get away as badly as you want them gone! Stomp your feet when approaching the area in question, give the bench a little kick or two when you get there.

Just have a neighbor or friend who doesn't mind snakes move it if it makes you uncomfortable. As a child, I caught, moved and released snakes for friends and neighbors. I wish we had snakes where I live now as I do enjoy them.
As for handling a snake, it is always best to learn the proper way to handle them before doing so. I was lucky that a family friend had some snakes and taught me or I probably would have had a bad experience with that pretty Copperhead....

You can not get rid of snakes here.....and no one here bothers coming to your house to help catch them either.I tried asking pest control, snake catchers, police and animal control and they just told me 'do not worry ...it will go away,it is harmless'. How they know without looking,is a mystery.
And these snakes are shameless, I think they even get amused and come more to see what we are up to when we put some 'repellant'.
I read someplace that if you scatter moth balls in perimeter, they stay away. I dunno...
So here is one who was just snug under a clay pot all winter and was exposed when I moved the pot recently. It was a thin and small snake( a little over a foot ,probably) but to me it looked like Anaconda. I think he was either hurt a bit or startled due to moving that pot because he did not move much for a while and I ran back in, got a camera and took several pics.
