Default Is Bayer 3 in 1 or Talstar safe for buds

Has anyone noticed bud damage from either of these products. I want to do some preventative treatments for thrips without causing damage to healthy buds and spikes. Can these products be safely sprayed on all parts of the plant? Orthene and Orthenex were my favorites but I can't find those products anymore. Also will products containing oil cause bud damage? Thanks.

In looking up this information...about the closest description I can see to assess whether or not bud damage occurs is the phrase "Floral Damage".

The table I am looking at shows that Orthene and Orthenex do not cause "Floral Damage" however, it seems Bayer 3 in 1 MAY cause "Floral Damage" but is unlikely.

As far as oils, Neem Oil does not cause "Floral Damage" but Paraffinic Oil WILL CAUSE "Floral Damage".

Hope that was helpful.

I use Bayer 3 in 1 all the time and spray it on the entire plant; flowers, leaves and even soak the bark. I have never seen a problem on any of my Phals, Paphs, Catts or Bulbos. Having said that, I mix it as directed sort of. It calls for 5 1/2 Tbs/ gal. I'm too lazy so I just put 6 Tbs/gal. Because it has a fungicide in it, it helps with petal blight from moisture. I also don't spray on a sunny day... don't really have a good scientific reason just I don't spray poisons on sunny days. I also don't use any of the "oils" because I'm fearful they might burn the leaves with hot sun, etc. I have Orthenex but don't use it much cuz it smells up my greenhouse for days. I haven't looked recently but you should be able to get it at Home Depot or Lowes. Just my

Thanks for the info.

I have professional strength Talstar and it works great on the yard, shrubs, and on the foliage of chids. I've never tried it on spikes or buds though.

I've been purchasing Orthene and Orthenex from HD and Lowe's for years and suddenly there's none on the shelves...no shelf tag...nada. Today, the garden assistant at HD told me they no longer carry it. Later I read a forum remark stating that both products will no longer be marketed...something to do with one company buying out another. That's a bummer if it's true.

I picked up a 32 oz. bottle of Organocide a few weeks ago but I haven't used it yet. It's an insecticide/fungicide that's supposed to kill thrips. Lowe's had it priced so cheap, $4.00, that I couldn't pass it up. It's a mixture of sesame oil, fish oil, and lecithin. Is anyone familiar with this product?

I apologize for all the questions. I rarely spray anything on my chids so I get a little paranoid about using something new.

Try some of the old stock of small garden supply stores...patronize them so they wont get killed by the big stores like HD...
Oils is a bit scary ...I dont want them on the leaves of my chids...its still outdoors and the sun might burn it...also ... oils attracts fungus
