Cattleya with ... virus?
Hi,
Yesterday I put my cattleya in a sunny position, where it receives full sun betwen 12-14 and 15:30-19. Today I discovered that a big leaf is almost black (!) and the new growth has some suspicious "rings"... Yesterday the plants was OK, but I don't know if the sun could have done that...
What is this?
Should I burn it?

Ops! In only one day is almost impossible a virus does that! Besides the plant has a impressive severe damage, I think the only hypotesis is that it's a sun burn!

Yes, it looks like it has been on the barbecue for 1 hour
But the small new growth? Is that the sign of a virus?

My thoughts are that an virus symptoms would not suddenly appear, on the entire leaf. You would have known earlier while that new leaf was growing. But I am not a plant pathologist
Perhaps a sucking insect did it?

Nope, looks like sunburn. Even though Cats can take extrememes of light, you can't move if from dim lighting to strong lighting all at once. Must accustomize it over a period of time. The plant will probably be ok, but these leaves are "toast".

Don't cut any of the growths (leaves) off. Just let them mature if they will. Then you'll know for sure. The new gowth looks ok to me, just damaged by the sun.
