Default disinfecting pots

Hello to all

What is an effective way to disinfect pots that can be done inside? Most of the pots are a glazed ceramic or plastic.

I've used a weak bleach solution before, but it is not something I look forward to having to smell indoors during the cold weather.

On another thread for disinfecting cutting tools I saw the use of rubbing alcohol and a TSP(?) solution for disinfection. Whould either of these be useful for soaking pots?

Thanks in advance,
Susan

Have you tried the scented Clorox spray? I use it and the dishwasher.

From a Houston Orchid Society pdf that Eyebabe so kindly posted in a different thread:

Make sure your pots are sterile.

– Disinfection of Plastic Pots
Plastic pots can be disinfected by first washing them with soap to remove residual organic matter, then soaking them for an hour in a 20% bleach solution, then soaking them for an hour in Physan mixed per label instructions.

– Clay Disinfection of Clay Pots
pots are porous and cannot be sterilized against viruses by using bleach and Physan alone. Follow the normal disinfection routine for plastic pots above and then bake them in the oven at 350F for an hour to kill any residual virus.

I've used a weak bleach solution, followed by a 5 minute spin in the microwave (while floating in a cake pan full of water). I keep a close eye on the project while in the microwave to make sure that nothing cracks or melts (which occasionally does happen). Those pots that survive are sprayed liberally with physan after cooling.

Seems to work for me.
