Mealy bugs!!
I just found a few mealy bugs on my den phal. They are only on the newest cane. They are down in the new leaves where they meet the cane. Help help!!!

SYSTEMIC INSECTICIDE!!! quick, get out the sprayer and spray them thoroghly, and all your other plants too....spray them thoroughly once a week for 4 weeks then once a month therafter.....

rubbing alcohol works too - tho you need to be vigilant. Also soak the pot in some soapy water (dish soap) 50/50 with rubbing alcohol or - I think - hydrogen peroxide. Rinse well after.
Remove the ones visible immediately - qtips soaked in rubbing alcohol works.

Isolate the affected plant from others - inspect all plants pretty frequently - included the one you are treating. Mealies don't fly - my only experience with them is plants that came with them - likely hiding in the buds - I treated them and isolated, and had no other probems. But do be watchful!

Malathion, Orthene or Safer Soap (used per label instructions) ... apply the pesticide and repeat the application 2 weeks later. Be sure to spray all plant surfaces, particularly the undersides of leaves and leaf axils.
That is for the "diseased" plant.
I think as long as you are mixing it up....prob wouldn't hurt to do all the other plants too as a precaution.
