den leaf problem

This is a little rescue den I bought at Lowes about 6 mo. ago, and recently I've noticed the leaves on the older growths have developed yellow/green splotches. The 2 new growths appear fine. Green and healthy. The leaves on the entire plant are firm. No mushiness. Could someone please tell me if this is a fungal, bacterial....and goodness forbid, a virus problem?

By the way, I promised a friend awhile back that I would never buy any more Lowes orchids because I have had so many problems with them.....so "Debs, I bought this orchid BEFORE I told you this".

The leaf problem is nothing to worry abut unless it starts on the new leaves. The leaves are dying because of the poor condition it was in but it looks healthy enough now. It is a Hard Cane type dend that likes heat and light also. Watch out for over watering in the moss you have it in. Get it into a coarse mix when the roots start.

Good to hear, Roy! Thank you! I was under the impression that this is a phal type den, though. Are the two terms the same type? If not, thanks for clearing me up on that also.

I would agree with Roy, it is a cultural problem. Looks like heat or cold stress. Our box stores either ignore the orchids or water them into mosquito farm conditions.
Still, I have found a few treasures in the baggies section. Gawd help me!

Thanks Nancy! You and Roy make me feel better. So, Lowe's did it...or maybe the growers before them..."Costco", is it? Something like that?! I have to say as you did, though, I have gotten some nice baggies there, as well. My 1st orchid to bloom was a $13 bag-baby catt from Lowes and it's a very healthy plant. Nice size, too. By the way...you're funny...but "Gawd help me, too!"

Same thing VickiC, hard cane is the type of dend family, Phal description is for the flower shape.
