Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and I have a question about black spots on orchid leaves. I have a Phalaenopsis orchid that I bought a few months ago, and it was doing well until recently. I noticed that some of the leaves have developed black spots that look like mold or fungus. The spots are irregular in shape and size, and they are mostly on the lower and older leaves. The affected leaves also seem to be wilting and dropping off. I have attached some photos of the problem for reference.
I have read some articles
Flower Meaning , Care and Gift idea | allwaysflower and posts on this forum and other websites about black spots on orchid leaves, and I found out that they can be caused by various factors, such as overwatering, poor drainage, low light, high humidity, or fungal or bacterial.
Some details about my orchid and its care are:
I water it once a week, or when the potting mix feels dry to the touch. I use room temperature water and let it drain well before putting it back in its place.
I fertilize it once a month, or every other watering, with a balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to half strength. I follow the instructions on the label and flush the pot with water after fertilizing.
I keep it in a bright spot near a south-facing window, but not in direct sunlight. I also use a sheer curtain to filter the light and avoid sunburn.
I maintain a moderate temperature and humidity level in my room, and I use a humidifier and a fan to provide some humidity and air circulation around the orchid.
I repotted it when I bought it, using a fresh orchid potting mix and a slightly larger pot with drainage holes. I also sterilized the pot and the tools before repotting.
I would appreciate any advice or tips from anyone who has experience or knowledge in treating black spots on orchid leaves. Thank you very much for your time and attention. 😊
