Bush Snails treatment
Does anyone know of/use a product that might help control bush snails? Other than the pellets that get gooey and moldy after they get wet. Thanks.

Bush snails are easily controlled by coffee (the caffeine kills them). I use cheap instant coffee and mix it up and then douse all my plants with it. Usually, one dose will do it but if they are in the environment, it might need done more often.
I read a great article years ago about an experiment done in Hawaii with caffeine in an attempt to get rid of frogs...the conclusion was that it eradicated the bush snails.

So you are saying I should pour cheap coffee on the orchids! I would need many, many gallons! Which I would do if it works. I can tell you that there are still coqui frogs here so that experiment was a failure. I have never heard of it. Citric Acid has been tried on frogs with some success. Not sure it would be good for orchid roots though or I might try. Maybe I will pick a pot with snails and try coffee. They are everywhere. I see them on the ground, in the rocks. Sometimes on tree branches. Thanks for your advice!

I buy cheap ground coffee when it's marked down and save it for killing snails.

are you supposed to water heavily after an hour or so? I remember seeing something about that (maybe on this forum). I tried the coffee therapy once and ended up staining my sphagnum moss. but between this treatment and corry's I haven't seen a snail in a while.

Worked for me and only needed to apply once to some Masdevallias sev. yrs ago. Brewed some instant coffee and poured the cold stuff thru plants, no rinsing.

A member here reported root damage after using coffee. I water the plant thoroughly first with plain water, so the roots are saturated. Then I water with coffee. I wait an hour and water thoroughly again to wash it out of the root mass. It may be overkill but it will minimize caffeine uptake by roots.

1 expresso diluted in a liter of water. That's what you need.
