Hmm, well that's still a bit odd, but obviously not your fault as that's what the tag says.

'Green Valley' in quotes indicates the name of a particular (in this case awarded) plant and all it's clones. If the original Green Valley plant was not an alba then it's clones shouldn't be either (clones are genetically identical).

If the plant was crossed with another psycopsis kalihii or even crossed with itself the offspring could vary and potentially produce an alba, but then the 'Green Valley' part of the name should not be applied (even if it was a psycopsis kalihii "green valley" crossed with another psycopsis kalihii "green valley" or one plant crossed with itself).

Having said that there is some chance of mutation in clones causing a change in their characteristics

I have one Psychopsis Mariposa 'Mountain' since last two years. 4Months ago I saw one spike arose. Now it's 6inch tall but from the middle of the may still now I found there no changes. So what can I do for her? Is it her natural habit or anything wrong with her? Please help me.

Is the top looking green still or dried out. I had another that sent a third spike and it stopped halfway up and dried out. It never did anything again so I cut it. At least if u can get a good spike from it it'll keep blooming. Mine has literally been blooming for two years one flower after another. Il look for this great article on these guys

To anyone who's life has been disrupted or ruined by reading my post I apologize. I accidentaly added the word Papillio to the post. The correct name is psycopsis kalihii "green valley" alba. Please know how distraught me and my family are over this incident. I understand if the flower is no longer beautiful. The orchid police are looking into this matter. Thank you.

I realize that is is a somewhat humorous comment, but I think it's important that folks understand the importance of proper naming and labeling.

It may be nothing more than you posting a photo. I like it, and want one, but without knowing what it truly is, how am I supposed to find it?

More seriously is the possibility that somewhere down the line, someone will breed a plant, and end up with something stunning and awardable. No valid genealogy equals no award.

Those are just two examples, but I think the point is clear.

OK, let me shift gears a bit - and I am looking for a knowledgeable answer here: a division or clone of an awarded plant carries the award designation. If an alba version of an awarded plant occurs as a result of an "error" in that cloning process, it is clearly not the same plant, so does it still carry the award designation?

Maybe I'm wrong but I really just like orchids because their beautiful. They fascinate me. All of them and I guess I just don't understand the need to have someone say yours is better than anyone else's. If that's your thing I respect that, really I do and I hope you win. I just don't take anything too seriously and maybe came off aggressive I guess, maybe. So RAY, I'm sorry if you think I'm a dick. Just trying to bring a little bit of fun into it all. I wasn't trying to make u mad or offended. From what I've heard you're an awesome guy who is good at growing orchids and I respect the hell out of that. So once again sorry if that was taken to be aggressive.

It's a good question Ray, I don't know the answer but just wanting to highlight it in case anyone else does.

I sort of think it does, because I've come across variability in named clones years ago (can't give an example I'm afraid) and it was explained by mutation in the cloning process. If the name carries over I would expect the award does... however I don't actually know if either the name or the award actually do

the top of the spike is still looking green. Is that plant wants more light or water now? I think since last two months I gave her minimum water.
