I would like to go, but I have transportation issues. The only way I'd be able to make it is if I spent the night in Pinellas county, wherever the meeting spot is, and take the bus in the morning. Then I'd have to make sure I woke up early enough in the morning to make it. I wouldn't be able to cross the bay in time if I were to leave on the morning of the departure.

I also don't know how long the group would stay down there, where they would be staying, etc. Heck, I don't even know what group is hosting the bus drive! My biggest concern, though, about going would be getting stranded. I don't think I'd be happy about being stranded 400+ miles from home in a city I don't know.

I'm afraid I may just have to sit this one out and look at the pics. It would be pretty awesome to meet the OB posters in South Florida.

I will be sure to take some extra pics for you!
I think the groups going on bus trips are orchid society groups, I could be wrong.

Yeah, but I don't know which society is doing it (not sure if it's gonna be the TBOS or another society).

I'd be kinda embarrassed about asking for a ride, though. It's like, "Hey, I'm not a part of the OS, but can I ride anyway?" I don't wanna be a mooch. I'm embarrassed just asking for directions, let alone a ride.

Can't wait to see the pics, though, and drool over the plants.

Carl, this Orchid Show is great, but it is a pain to get there. I live about 35 miles from there and I can tell you for certain that there is nothing worth going down there for except orchids (and other plants). It is not a beautiful area as you think of in the tourist brochures. Believe me, I lived down there in the 70's and it hasn't gotten any better. It is rural and farms and some places are very old and run down. There are very nice orchid growers stuck in and around this small area. But the surrounding area is not special. Not even any good restaurants around (bring your lunch). Sometimes, if I can talk a family member into going with me, I drive another 30 minutes south to Key Largo to go to a restaurant on the water and watch the sunset. That is fun. Then I drive about an hour home. The thing is most of the out of town people go with their local society friends so they have fun on the ride down and ride back. Plus, I forgot, it is ungodly hot! About 90 with intense sun and it is outside. So just wait until you can get a car and come down for the show and stay at the beach or in the keys for a few days! That would be the best!

I'll take your word for it, then, Susie.

Actually, I wouldn't mind the heat (quite the contrary - I'd enjoy it). I love warm weather.

Okay...here's a nametag for us to use at Redlands...or anywhere, actually

I'm also going to do a business card sheet with the OB web site address. If you'd like to print it out and pass out some cards to the folks wandering around looking scared...

I'll post it later today.

FYI: I don't know if anybody else noticed Jerry's (orchidsamore) offer in our classified forum...

Orchidsamore is offering a 10% discount to OB members attending Redlands

Thanks Jerry

That's perfect! I already have a list of places I'm going to hang that up.
