Far as I can tell, after four year of talking to countless nurseries across the US, and a couple in Germany and France, there is a widespread knowledge gap, even among established growers/vendors, about the existence of two forms of Angcm. leonis.
The Comoro variety is fairly common in trade in the US and is a mid-sized plant with a spread of approximately 12" when mature . Leaves are thinner than the Madagascar variety at all growth stages, approx. 7" at maturity, and distinctly curved.
The Madagascar leonis is a chunkier, stouter plant, with a mature spread of approximately 7" --leaves are fatter, straighter and roughly 3-4" fully matured.
First picture is of my mature Comoro leonis and offsets.
Second picture shows a young Comoro, left, and young Madagascar.
Third picture is of a young Madagascar, showing the chunky, straighter leaves characteristic of this variety.
Last pic is a mature Madagascar leonis that highlights the thickness of its leaves relative to the Comoro.
