I Live in Los Angeles area and have about 250 orchids in our 8'x6' greenhouse, another 150 or so growing outside in a shade house, another 35 mounted on trees in front yard.
Also about 30 trash Phals. Indoors, and a vivarium with about 40 minis in the house.

As for the rest of my yard there is well over 1000 miscellaneous plants, cactus, bromeliads, ferns, plumerias, tillandsias and many others.

My wife and me a dedicated plant freaks, I have been growing plants since I was 9 and got into orchids when I was about 19. Met a guy in collage who had a nursery and would go collecting in Mexico, found orchids at his nursery and was addictid from the start. I went on one collection trip to Mexico with him, lasted a month and we bought back over 5000 orchids and over 5000 miscellaneous other plants.

That was my start and I am a very happy orchid and plant grower.

I must be a pro because I know I have killed more plants then I have now.

Yay? Lol. Speaking of overwatering, I was just at the grocery store and they had all of their orchids..ALL of them. Sitting in at least an inch or two of cold ass water by the refrigerator section. I looked at them all to see if there were any I might want to rescue, but...they either had spots on their leaves, poor looking roots, or dying flowers, or a combination therein. It makes me so sad when people do that to them!! I know it's totally off topic but I had to vent to someone who understands!! Lol.

I don't suppose it would have been a good idea to have informed the Manager.

Letting him know that you were prepared to rescue them at close of play when they are unlikely to survive?

Nothing like a bit of cheek? You'd sound like an expert to him probably.

They don't care, they are all NoIDs with no vendor sticker in plastic pots that just either make them money or get thrown away. *sigh*

Well Me Luv the only option open for you is to go back after closing and do some Dumpster Diving.

Some people in the UK actually live on the proceeds of Dumpster Diving.

Lol nah, I've successfully killed and failed to rescue enough phals. From now on I've decided I'd like to buy something a little bit more quality...from reputable sources. That said, the gardening guy at my local Lowes collects orchids so he immediately reports and sends any back that are diseased or look bad or whatever...not a breeder but not a grocery store lol.

I've certainly sacrificed a few to the Orchid Gods.

Right now...I have right around 50 something plants. I actually had to count them because I had no idea that I had that many. That number will increase this weekend, as I have a few Catts that badly need dividing. I plan to give some away though...so I still won't have over 60.

The most I've had was 78. They had a "run-in" with an apple tree and large balls of hail.

I'll likely end up with more though. I'm SO excited that I can hardly contain myself! I've been growing orchids for many years....Inside....Outside under tree's. I've lost so many because of weather issues....even had one stolen! My husband is building me an orchid house!! I have never had a place to keep all my orchids together except when I was in college and had them all stuffed in a spare bedroom. I really don't want to fill it up with nothing but orchids....because I also want to be able to take good care of what I have and enjoy them!

I'm hoping that someday my fiance will be that kind...but he's an engineer so if I asked him to build me something he'd totally go Tim The Tool Man Taylor on me...more power!

I'm really enjoying my cattleya types so far, they're the only ones that seem to love me... And given that my windows all face west, I'm happy to add more of them to my collection. I'd like to have a go at some dendrobiums too but I'm too scared.
