It is quite chilly and feels like we are going back to winter almost.
Anyway, it is March and orchids are back to the local outdoor market here.
I already got a nice deep red miltoniopsis last week.
I got out to the market early today and picked whatever I found attractive before anyone else got to see them.
I picked one miltoniopsis with waterfall (Breathless Brilliant) I'm in love with the rather strange but very vivid&exotic pattern on the lip!
The plant is small and that is a plus. Flower count is also good (five flowers per spike) but spike count is bad. only one spike. oh, well, can't be perfect.
then Tiger Crow "Golden Girl". I have bought this clone many times in the past, but this one is the smallest plant I've ever seen. and the flower spike is still quite big with big flowers. flower color is rather unique with darker center being much more pronouced. What a find for me. I think I will keep this one.
Last one is Coelgyne Jannine Banks "Snow White" HCC/AM/OSNSW. It looks like my Coel. Unchained Melody on steroid. well, that and with orange color added to the lip. and the scent is much better.
I saw two spikes with many large white flowers hanging down the pot and I knew I had to have it!
just looked up online and learned that it was named by a famous Aussie orchid breeder, Mr.Banks to commemorate his first wife who died from cancer in 1994.
This plant has what appears to look like a third spike, but that could turn into a new growth.
That was the shopping of the day for me.
