Would you be more inclined to visit an orchid nursery's website if if was updated more? Even if it was to read a blog style update with posting including a rarely seen species in bloom, an awarded clone that was recently divided with 2-3 divisions available, humorous or slightly interesting things happening in the greenhouse, scientific breakdowns of what is happening on a plant, etc. ?

The pictures wouldnt be labored over editing them and would be just iphone quality and Im not the best communicator but it occurs to me that isnt completely relevant in terms of interest.

Would you be and what else would you want to see, read, know, find interesting? I try to keep up on lots of nureries and their websites, not too many do this entirely Jim and Lauris do a pretty good job though,(visit!

Let me know your thoughts OB

Daniel

I certainly would be interested in checking back at a site that has blogs that relate to all kinds of interesting things that happen with orchid growing whether commercially or just for hobby.

I personally love to see updates. I like to see things being added, current news, anything to show that the business is still ALIVE :P I've come across many nurseries that have the bare bones and rarely add or change anything. Not that they need something extravagant, but I'd be more inclined to visit their website if I knew there might be some new information or update. I also love to read 'About Us' segments, any kind of autobiographical text. It's nice to read about how others got into orchids and how they've grown...

Hope I've been helpful

I have never understood why someone would go to the bother and work to start a website and then not keep it up to date. Nothing will make me remove a site from my favorites faster than to see that it hasn't been updated for months or even years!

I'm with Tim and Al. I wouldn't be as interested in a blog or stories from the greenhouse, but the fact that any site is updated frequently gives me more confidence to buy that vendor.

I'm generally highly indifferent to blogs -- don't even have one myself. But a regularly updated website does encourage one to check back. As others have averred ... when one comes across a website that hasn't been updated for a great length of time, one starts to wonder if that nursery is even still in business.

In general I agree with what others have said. Even if I don't happen to be interested in the content of a particular blog or other update, the evidence that some effort is being made to keep the website current gives me confidence in the business. And in general, for a blog I would expect both photos and writing to be more spontaneous, less polished.

I don't have time to read blogs. They're just one more thing that can suck up an inordinate amount of time that I really don't have a lot of. I agree a website that is updated frequently keeps me checking back. Even better a short e-newsletter with listed specials that you can sign up for. Nothing sucks me in faster that notice of a sale.
