I liked the trichocentrum Ollie Palmer so well that I just ordered Lanceanum before they run out. The Ollie was blooming size, but the Lanceanum is near flowering size. The roots of that Ollie are really growing nicely, very thick healthy roots, even though they gave it a buzz cut before they sent it to me. I just have it with my cattleyas. Today everyone went outside to sunbathe.

Lanceanum is (according to Kim @ Fair Orchids) it's hard to grow. I asked him why and he said some very experienced grower had told him...Mine was tiny and has grown slowly but, doesn't seem difficult. I don't like the way they climb, though.

I do understand that the hybrids are much easier to grow. Oh well, do you know how many species paphs I have killed? I do believe that Ollie Palmer is 1/2 Lanceanum (carthagenense x lanceanum). If I lose any of them it will be for humidity reasons. We shall see.

Lopharis? I am just getting to know the mule ears. I figure My "collection" will take a few years before I get disinterested. It's cute as heck. Small? I will research this. I just put out an APB for Oncidium phymatochilum
I am pretty sure that is not the correct spelling.

I just looked and am confuzzled. Is Lopharis a synonym for Trichocentrum/oncidium? Hausermann's does not have Lopharis Pumilum, but it does have "Lopharis lanceanum," which is the same as the Trichocentrum Lanceanum that I have just purchased. (The Housermann lanceanum is several years from bloom but the one I am getting is one year from bloom in a 3 inch pot). The Ollie I got was blooming size in a 4 inch pot and now has 2 new growths. I just found a way to raise the humidity around it, and it should be good to go. They live in Trinidad where the humidity is about 60-80% and temps are about 80-60. My Step-Mom came from Trinidad, so I kind of like having something from her Island.

I bought it at Hausermann's open house. I would call them.
Tag reads " lophiaris (Oncidium) pumilum." Brazil # 23407

Hausermann's has a Search feature. You can put in any part of the name or the product number. For plants with multiple genus names, I put in the species name, in this case "pumilum." It will return any listing with that string of characters. It only shows things currently on their Web site. They have a lot of other things for sale, so call and ask.
