Yeah the sun is just so intense here, even more so in the last 5 years. it's crazy... is austin sun that intense, isurus79? Can you grow outside there?

poor little variegata... but the remaining fan seems in good shape knock on wood... maybe i'll put in one of the growing cases...

Yep, I'm farther south than LA, so the sun here is even more intense. I used to live in Hawaii, where even the most tanned Californian/Texan will burn in minutes!! Its amazing how strong the sun gets as you move towards the equator.

Tolu variegata is from the Caribbean, which means it gets some very strong sun. There are a ton of reasons that could have hurt this plant, though my guess is that the sun isn't the only reason.

I'll throw most of my orchids on the patio (which faces southeast) in mid-March. They get a 50% aluminet shade cloth.
