Oh, trust me, once the orchid bug bites, you're done, there's no turning back All I can say, I am a young female and I can't tell you the last time I went clothes or shoes shopping - but I can sure as hell remember the last time I bought an orchid!
Your collection will start growing, slowly but surely (maybe not slowly, e.g. I went crazy a few weeks ago and got 15 plants at once..it was a nursery visit, nobody judge me!) Oh and there are so many orchids in this world
There might be plants that will not like your environment, and there will be others that will totally love it, it's all about trying, knowing what works for you.
I started as an over-waterer, than changed my media to pure bark and became an under-waterer Lost two phals to that, but since then I found my spot somewhere in between What I found best for me is having one or two orchids in pure bark, or something that dries out very fast, so I can water them every other day and they keep me busy, while the rest of the plants need more time to get to another watering point. That way I do not over water my plants and my urge to water every day is fulfilled and yet not overwhelming, as it really is just two plants that need my attention often

I'm in your age group and I'm the same odd ball to people! So what, at least I'm a happy oddball that gets to wake up in a room full of orchids (the bedroom is the only room that gets sunlight in winter )!
And waste of money...if I make one of these little plants grow for 20 years, my kids will inherit something more valuable than an old iphone

Quite right its lovely to have them and being a stressed person i like the calm i feel with them and my other plants. Lucky having a sunny bedroom iv got a north facing room so no sun but its bright so i have 2 phals on the sill and the others placed in living room and kitchen. So nice to have.
I agree with you there, if cared for they will reward you.

Absolutely - it's so hard to escape nowadays, from stress, work, concrete jungle and all that. And every week when I take my time to soak the 'chids', it's just such a calming thing for me And they are also very good listeners I know it sounds crazy, but every orchid in our home has a name and is highly congratulated on any new growth

Definately it all gets to be too much at times and its nice to look around at some nice plants and the orchids are just amazing. I enjoy going around too when its watering time. I remember before i got my first one reading a care manual and it said having a soothing voice helped tehe!

Haha, love it! My voice is nowhere close to soothing when I spot a new growth - I yell with joy like a mad woman

A root is a huge thing! It's the 'little huge' things that make orchid growers happy
