At the end of the day you need to see how your plant reacts to its current environment. I always ask whoever I purchased my plants off what they do at their nursery. And just try to keep up their same maintenance schedule.

I have a few plants I never cut their spikes.
"Who cuts these spikes in nature?"

Clearly is if it dead/dying cut it off. If not keep feeding them and let the plant decide for itself. It is alive and makes it own conscious decisions in its growth/bloom cycles.

You keep them happy, they keep you happy :]

My Oncidiums have dried up their spikes after each blooming so far, and I have yet to see one re-bloom off of an old spike, but I certainly haven't seen everything that pertains to orchid growing.

I'm beginning to think my little twinkle might be a mislabeled Oncidium Tsiku Marguerite... Check out the blooms on this pretty little thing, they opened up and were pink! When I purchased this plant in March, the blooms were white and super fragrant.

I just posted photos of my Tsiku Marguerite on the forum. I have owned it for 2 years now and have never cut any of the spikes. And it always re blooms 2-3 times a year, even more now that I have kept a strict feeding schedule. At the moment it has 15 spikes. Check her out of whenever you get the chance!

I think what RandomGemini has is a Twinkle. Oncidium Tsiku Marguerite is a noticeably larger (taller plant) and the flowers are more spaced apart.

I have a purple twinkle and a white one, I have also seen yellow, red and pink (tho' it is a darker pink than your photo)

The color is pretty close to reality. It's a barely there pink. From the base of the pbulb to the leaf tip, the tallest growth on this plant is just under a foot high.

Loads of spikes on this, it has four others that are in various stages of bud, so I'm thinking it will be in flower for me for a while. It just started giving off a scent this morning and it's sort of a powdery, light sweet scent. Reminiscent of my sharry baby, but not as spicy, definite note of chocolate though. It has a couple of bad looking leaves, but here is a shot of the entire plant.

The scent was more perfume like in March. It seems like maybe the scent changes as the blooms age as well as the color?

I have had some Onc. have their spikes branch when the tip is broken off - Sharry Baby is one example. I've never had one keep a green spike, so I've never had one re-bloom on the same spike.

Mine is like yours, a light pink. If I remember right the blooms get lighter as it age's. Mine only blooms once a year.

I have never seen a purple one. Please post a picture when it blooms.
