Miltoniopsis NOIDs
Very happy to report some success with this genus! Most of these came to me as sickly rescues with poor root systems, but I'm quite happy with the survivors now that I've (fingers crossed!) figured them out. The first plant I've rebloomed has 12 blooms over 3 spikes, the second 10 on 2 spikes. I'm eagerly anticipating the 3 others which are in bud
Culture-wise, my happiest Milts are in a mixture of rockwool cubes and large perlite (70:30ish). It's probably worth noting that I am a habitual underwaterer, so those on the other end of the spectrum might have entirely different results as it's extremely moisture-retentive! I also hear pH imbalances can be an issue with rockwool in the long run, but for now the plants seem healthy, with strong root regrowth. They sit on a north-facing bathroom window as it is the most humid place in the house. Though I had suspected the light levels there would be too low, it doesn't seem to be the case, with most of them taking a pinkish blush to the leaves and no problem throwing spikes.
Hope you enjoy the photos

Thank you! The second one I didn't find particularly special when it did open its flowers (it was bought out of bloom at a huge discount). But a happy Milt is better than no Milt, right?

beautiful and nice healthy looking plant. So then the medium is kept pretty wet/moist?? I have always struggled with them but love them. Have been finding wetter is better, but not sure if I am rotting roots doing that.

Is rockwool safe to handle? I always thought breathing in particle of rockwool will somehow damage my lungs. maybe something I read.
Anyways, your miltoniopsis are just stunning!
Especially the first one, I would buy it any day!

Super pretty!! Is that first one a Princess Diana? There's divisions on ebay of one of these right now, thus my guess...
Great job, I wouldn't have guessed that these were "rescues" as the plant looks really healthy. That second one is still pretty cute, the slightly translucent purple gives it more character.

Thank you, Rosie.
I am still rather paranoid about rockwool, fiber glass, and all those material.
