Miltassia culture - Orchid Board

can anyone provide me with information about the culture of miltassia? i can seem to find it anywhere here on the forum. thanks

Moderately bright light. Media slightly moist, not soggy.

so, catt. light with spagh? what are the temps it likes?

I grow my Miltassia Royal Robe Jerry's Pick in a bark mix, I water when medium starts to dry, and I have it in bright indirect light. It doesn't seem to be particluar about temps; I have it inside in the winter and outside all summer; cool nights don't seem to bother it. This seems to work for me.

maybe a bit less light than that - thin foliage. One of mine spiked getting a few hours of morning sun. It is set back further on the porch so is shaded earlier than the catts. Mine are in coconut husk chips. Sphag should be do-able so long as it isn't packed. Whatever media works best for you. Sphag will dry much slower bark. Coconut husk chips dry slower than bark, but faster than sphag. Media in plastic pots will dry slower than media in clay pots. Media in small pots dries faster than media in big pots.
Mine take temps over 100 for short periods, and the one inside goes down to mid-50s in winter - one stayed outside all winter, and took temps down to around 40 (overnight lows, so around 40 for a few hours - not a constant 40 degrees)

I will probably put it in either bark or coco husk. Is there any brand of coco husk or bark mix I can buy at a local store and not on the Internet? I live in pa so it's not much differet than ny so I could put it inside durin winter

At one time I think someone on the board said they found coconut husk chips at Lowes, I think ? But I'm not positive. I have also heard it suggested to try hydroponics supply store if there is one near you. The stuff I get is pre-washed, but it was recommended that I wash it again to be safe. However since it is 'pre-washed' I only soak it overnight, and then rinse. I guess if it isn't pre-washed you need to soak and rinse a few times, and I think I read something about adding maybe epsom salt to the wash ?
I know where I live that orchid bark, and orchid bark mixes can usually be bought at box store, garden centers, and there's even a hardware store that carries it. Tho usually they carry one type only. Check Lowes and Home Depot if you have those near you. The easiest way to go would be an
orchid bark mix (smaller bark chunks if you can get it, for Mtssa). I have heard it said that Miracle Gro orchid mix is to be avoided - too dense. I have heard that Better Gro(w) is orchid mix is good. I have used Schultz, was "ok" - and Gubler's which I like a lot.
