Default Telipogon (Section Stellilabium)

The largest one is Telipogon williamsii. The one on the right of the photo towards the front is Telipogon astroglossus. The one on the left of the photo towards the front is Telipogon pogonostalix.

These are the few Telipogons that have demonstrated that they are able to be grown in cultivation without a lot of difficulties as long as the roots are intact!

As long as it is between 65F to 85F, everything should be good.

Telipogon pogonostalix can bloom even when the plant is super tiny (a little under 1 cm across).

I posted photos of the flowers of Telipogon williamsii and Telipogon pogonostalix. They were taken with an iPhone 12 camera. I’m waiting for this plant of Telipogon astroglossus to bloom. I do have an older photo of another plant of Telipogon astroglossus if anyone would like for me to post that one. There are better photos of the flowers that can be searched.

Actually, these can go a lot cooler than 65 deg F I'm pretty sure. It's high temperature that's the enemy, 85 deg F is pushing it if it's for very long.

I think that Telipogon is actually in Maxillariae. Want me to move the thread?

They are in the oncidiinae subtribe aren't they? Are you guys talking about groups within that? Are sections groups within the genus?

Took a look at IOSPE, and they are in Oncidinae. So my apologies on that. (Orchidwiz is incorrect on this one)

This genus (Telipogon/Stellilabium) tends to go between Oncidiinae and Maxillariae for some reason.

I haven’t tried out the low-end temperature extreme with them, so I didn’t feel too comfortable going too low. I have them grown indoors where the low-end temperature does occasionally drop to 65F if I set my AC to that. Some of these come from elevations in excess of 2,000 meters depending on the species, so low end temperatures of 45F - 55F can be possible.

I haven’t seen an issue with them when the temperature rises up to around the mid 80sF, but it doesn’t stay that warm in my room all the time.

This group of “Telipogons” keep getting classified interchangeably between the genus Telipogon and the genus Stellilabium. I guess it depends on who you’re talking to. If they’re considered Telipogon, then perhaps Section Stellilabium is the way to go. If they’re considered Stellilabium, then I don’t know if the classification of this genus would break down into sections.
