I'm starting to like picher plants!
Uh. Oh. Something more to obsess over! I bought a pitcher plant because someone else took the top off and it would have died without it. It was about 5 dollers, the storied Gublers Hybrid in which they do not admit what has been mixed with what. Needless to say, it is a good grower. After 2 weeks it has a third pitcher, and 3 more forming. I watched my favorite greenhouse show on you tube, and have been spritzing the new growths every day. These things get HUGE, so I am not going to get many. I was thinking of going to north american pitchers instead, the Sarracenia. It seems they can be a bit more contained. I have had experience with them as weeds when I lived in Iowa.
Any one have experience with them?

I have two sarcs. One is the purple pitcher and the other is unknown. They are very easy. Just water with distilled water. If I re-pot, I use some peat, sand, small bark (no fertilizer) and some perlite. I usually put a layer of NZ sphagnum on top just for good measure. Some of them have pitchers that need water added to them to catch bugs (they won't have lids), the others make their own liquid (they have lids). I just put them outside and let them feast. Mine hate to be dry so I keep them in a saucer of water.
Different kinds may need different mediums/care. There are some great sites out there, though, and some places even sell special mixes of medium. Good luck!

I've got a couple, they like full sun, distilled water (or rain etc.) and they need nutrient free media (I.e. sphagnum, peat, perlite, silica sand). What media you use depends on your climate, I personally am experimenting with just pure sphagnum but most people use 1:1 peat: perlite (just never miracle grow). If you want there is also TheSarraceniaForum there's plenty of growers and information there
Here are some of mine if you want to see some
S. leucophylla
S. rosea x OP (op is open pollinated)
S. purpurea x OP (though I'm almost certain these plants crossed with other S. purpurea)
S. oreophila (critically endangered but more common in collections)
S. leucophylla hurricane creek white clone A

Here's another picture of it
S. leucophylla Baldwin Co.
I think sarracenia is currently my favorite genus of plant with leucophylla being my favorite species

What many people don't realize is that the pitchers are the leaves of the plant
S. rosea x 'Daina's Delight'
The flowers are altogether different
S. leucophylla Hurricane Creek White Clone A flower
