The Spring Peeper, Pseudacris crucifer

Hi all,

Have been keeping this one in my office since one of the students taking Flora and Fauna frog-napped this little guy from the forest. After a few days the student didn't know what to do with it so I took it. Took this pic as it willingly posed for me today.

The species epithet crucifer comes from the fact that many of these tree-frogs have an X pattern on their backs.

What a cutie! I love the amphibians. When I had a pond, we always had green frogs. I am always very lucky to have a toad or two living in my pots during the summer (and, often, I find one still living in a pot after I bring the plants inside and have to put him/her back outside). One of my favorites, something I rarely see now, are the newts.

Its a male. It has a very loud peep.
