My Ping is about to flower!!!
Default My Ping is about to flower!!!

I bought this about a month ago at a show, mainly as an aid to get rid of some annoying fungus gnat.

It has been doing a very good job, although there are still way too many of them around.

I noticed today that it is sending up a flower stalk!

Somehow my phone camera did not pick up the right amount of light and the whole thing is very dark, but the tip is beautiful magenta.

This is so exciting! my first ping is going to flower!!!

As of now, it looks like just one bud hanging, but I have seen this plant with many flower stalks, and it was very pretty!

The flower has been open for over a week now.
It is quite pretty to look at.

The plant is sending up one more (perhaps two) flower. Yay!!!

So, can anyone tell me what kind of ping mine is, since I have a flower picture now?

Hate to "pop your bubble", but if you are basing your call on that second top-view photo, I would disagree. From what I am seeing, it appears that the plant's crown is dividing. No cause for worry, just one of the many methods by which they multiply.

Can't make a definitive ID but it appears to be either a moranesis or a moranesis hybrid.

One of the two pointy things in the center is unfurling today, and da da!!!

It is one more flower bud!

So, moranesis and its hybrids, are they "easy"?
Do they need winter chilling??
My main concern.

Default Two more flowers!

I love this plant! a great fungus gnat catcher with cute long lasting flowers!

The first flower is still looking fresh after a few weeks, and now two more flowers open!

I see the plant is busy making more buds at the center.

Very.

Nope. Sitting on your window ledge will likely be more than sufficient. If conditions are kept consistent (including day length), it is possible that it won't enter a dormancy stage at all. Jus keep it drier over the winter, especially if it goes dormant.
