I've always wondered what the various American jumping spiders looked like.

They have so much personality!
I have what we call Johnson Jumping Spiders.
Cute little buggers. About the size of a pinky nail.
Here's one on a mini rose. He's my favorite since the sitting area around my mini pond is his territory.
He keeps my plants there spotless.

Hmm...perhaps both you and Maureen are further north and that's why. Either way, I am glad I don't have them. Hehe.
San Jose
I only really started to see these (the bigger ones at least) a few years ago ... probably due to having had a number of orchids outside year-round for a while.

Those Johnson Jumping Spiders are pretty colorful.

I've seen a gold colored one before, but it is kind of elusive.

If I find one, I'll try to take a photo of it.

That's really close...maybe they're already here waiting for me! Sunnyvale here. Heh. I'm fine with the small ones I see quite often at wooden picnic tables, but this guy looks bigger and creepier :P

They aren't huge - less than an inch, I think - but the heavy body, hairy legs, and dark color make them seem to appear bigger than they are. But, they are timid usually, and definitely more scared of me than I am of them I had previously been unable to ever get pix of any, as they would keep trying to hide from me. This one was thirsty (summer - hot, dry days) and going for the water drops I had just deposited on the plant during watering

Yes, I try to catch spiders I find inside, and relocate them to outdoors

I should look for a pic if an orb spider I toik a few years ago * had made an awesome web from a plant hanging from the roof over-hang down to a Cym on the porch beneath - for days I tried to be careful out there so to not destroy that web!

** found the pic!**
she's sitting in the center of her web - at the far right of the pic, if you look carefully, you can just see part of it
