Insect Discovered in my Home the Earwig

What the heck is this thing? I typed a description of it in Google and it came up and I did a little reading on it. I don't even know where this bug has come from. I don't know if it traveled along from the store inside one of my orchids or if it is a generally common insect found in the cracks and crevices of my home. Will this thing eat my orchids? Will it bite my dog? My children?

This is the FIRST TIME in my LIFE I have seen this thing. My fiancee and I couldn't believe it. My dog was barking so I went upstairs to see what all the fuss was about and my youngest daughter said "dad dad look" and there it was: on the floor crawling on the carpet!!! Of course I burned the sucka!!!

What do I do to get rid of these things? How can I find out if I have more? I don't wanna lose any of my orchids to this little monstrosity!!! HELP!!!!
