Here's my ![Two Cents](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/twocents.gif) I noticed a big difference in the OB and have gotten fewer and fewer posts. I guess I am a creature of habit I liked it better the old way. Nothing would please me more to go back.......
Thanks Sheridan

RAWR i agree with Tindo and Camille, non-orchid groups should stayyyyyy; the off-topic section is too broad to use for non-orchid plants ... and i for one will jump on the social group posting to keep them afloat faster than a hobo to a train... sorry just babbling

Rosie, I think you're going to have to quit your job and give up all non-orchid related activities so you can keep up with us
All Orchidboard, all the time
Only kidding but couldn't help myself...it's been a very long day and I'm feeling a little silly ![ROFL](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/rofl3.gif)

I'm thinking a compromise will do the trick...as long as the groups are non-orchid related, the conversations within the main forums will be as they were before ![Smile](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/smile.gif)

I don't really think that the social groups cut into the more regular postings on board - the groups are not that active for the most part. But I didn't think it was for orchid discussions until a few days into the new setup was placed.
Don't forget the weather is getting warmer, the cabin fever that some of us feel is being lifted slowly but surely. Alot of folks aren't spending as much time inside, near they're comps.
In my experience all forums slow down during the warmer months.
I love the idea of keeping the social groups for other things - for non orchid related topics.

Yeah, that would be good
I'm just becoming too obsessed with reading everything
I've been reading three times a day (morning, lunch and evening) while I'm off work decorating, and I still find it hard to keep up. That shows that we're not really loosing trafic on the main forum doesn't it ![Big Grin](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/biggrin2.gif)

OK, long thread, lots to respond to.
Marty, Thanks for the statistics. People, am I the only one that saw them? Posts are UP.
Tindo, Neat analogy. I like small towns better too. Quality is definitely better than quantity.
Matt, Thanks for your comments too. So many of the comments here have been something to the effect of, "I'm not in a group so I don't like them" or "I forget to check my group so I don't like them" or "posts are way down so I don't like them" (even though posts are up). Using Tindo's analogy, the statements above might be more symptoms of the "big city" OB mentality. Why join a group, then not check in on it? And why actively lobby for eliminating something in which you do not participate?
I don't use the chat - ever. But if people are chatting, are they posting? No. Forum activity could arguably be affected by the chat function, should we look in to canceling chats? I know, I know, I'm just illustrating absurdity by being absurd.
Obviously if nobody is chatting, forum posts aren't affected. If Everyone is chatting, the OB is serving its purpose to unite us growers in any way possible. So either way, chat is a good thing. Why would it not be the same for social groups? They are either benign, or serving a purpose. Either way, I don't see reason to kill them. Yes, I am one of those people who forgets to check in. Is there some way to make it so users or members would be notified of new posts? That is the only reason why I don't use them, I just plain and simple forget, and Royal has a great point!

I think we've all come to the conclusion that the social groups are not the reason for my perceived lack of activity. I must've been imagining things...but then again, a few others were having the same delusions
I thought the board seemed to have lost "something"...don't know exactly what it was but it started to feel a little different around here. I wrongly associated it with the appearance of the social groups.
I still think the social groups should not be used for orchid-specific dialog...that's what the forums are for.
I started the first group for the project so we could possibly keep all pertinent info centrally located but it didn't really work out that way. I am also a member of a few of the other groups, I just don't always remember to check for new stuff in them. Unfortunately, the upgrade that gave us the groups also gave us a glitch regarding notifications of group activity...hopefully, it will be taken care of in the next OB upgrade ![Cross Fingers](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/crossfingers.gif)

I agree , it would be good to have things back the way they were.
