I have to agree with the majority of people who have posted so far. I decided to join a few social groups, but because they require extra steps to check in on them for new threads, I forget to check in. No instant email notifications. It's much easier and nicer to go to the new posts link and see a diverse listing of all the new posts.

Charlie (cabnc), if you are reading this, I copied your plant list and all the info into one of our project threads:

Truthfully, I forget to look at the social groups, so I'm probably missing out!! Clearly either I should 1. start remembering to look at them, or 2. they can go byebye ![Very Happy](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

I have taken a while to decide what I think....
& I too agree with the idea that although it was a good idea at first.... it takes alot out of the everyday threads...
But at the same time I also agree that It would be a good idea that phals should be divided into Hybrids & Species...If poss?
these available to all but at the same time ..It would also be a shame to lose what has been input (photos & different peoples inputs on the social threads...) is there a way of 'closing them' but keeping the 'input ' Somewhere, maybe just as different threads? under the different species?

I don't know that doing that is possible...I posted a thread earlier today about the same subject (Great minds think alike, huh? ![Wink](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif) )
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...roup-news.html
I've already copied the extensive plant list that Charlie put together while researching the current project...too much great info...and work involved...to just let it be lost
I suggest others do the same if there is something important from your discussions ![Computer work](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/on_pc.gif)

well... well... well... i must agree that the social groups aren't needed to any great degree... but i myself think they're kinda of a cool idea and i also think all of you are jumping on the "destroy the social group" band wagon a little too fast in my wittle mind ![ROFL](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/rofl3.gif) but oh well whether they stay or go has no affect on me; i just feel sorry for the poor, poor social groups being cast to the wind when they have no more use tisk tisk...for shame ![Coverlaugh](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/coverlaugh.gif)

I agree. I'd completely forgotten about them. If people don't mention them I don't look. Besides, I don't see the point if they don't notify you when someone posts in them.

methinks that the non-orchid groups have a place in the forum... the orchid groups are kinda moot but i enjoy the non-orchid ones, it gives the people who grow other kinds of plants shelter from the orchid crazed ![Wink](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif) perhaps we could create some sorta non-orchid subforum, i dunno... just a thought is all ![Yawn](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/yawn.gif)

I'm with Matt on this. The orchid groups are largely pointless, but the other plant groups should be allowed to stay unless there is a subforum for them. Although I think its a shame we can't keep regional groups, as well.

It's going to have to be an all-or-nothing kind of deal with this one. We can't separate the two (orchids and non-orchids) so it will all be gone soon.
If there's anything in those discussion threads that you would miss, be sure to copy and paste it for yourself before it's gone ![Nod](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/nod.gif)
