I have what appears to be some sort of Sobralia that I've had mounted on a mango tree for a little under a year and was very excited to see it budding about a month ago. It looked like it was almost ready to flower and the next day it was already wilting. So I figured it must be a night blooming Sobralia, like a S. fragrans I have.
Well, last night the buds looked ready to open so I stayed up till about midnight and they still hadn't opened. So this morning I went out to check on them about a half an hour before sunrise and it looked as if they never opened but now a few hours into daylight they are already wilting.
Now to my question, are there Sobralia or related orchids that only open for a really short period at night and are closed back up before morning? It almost looks as if they never opened, but so did the first one to bloom, and it's developing a seed pod, so it must have opened at least shortly.
