Bletia catenulata
Bletia catenulata is a well-known deciduous terrestrial orchid spread from the coastal areas of the Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil until so far as Colombia, living in altitudes that go from the sea level until 2,500 meters. In the central Brazilian plateaus, where it grows associated with tall grasses, it is subject to occasional fires. The plant has round pseudo bulbs that remain more or less buried in the ground assuring its survival when the fire burns the surrounding vegetation. In spite of its large geographical distribution, it is seldom seen in collections or shows here.
