Ornithochepalus sp.

I have a plant that looks identical and it is identified as Orn. gladiatus, which I am sure it is not. In my experience the species of Ornithocephalus (means bird's head and refers to the column) are very poorly identified in the trade, and no matter what one purchases under whatever name, one never knows what the plant will be.

I had to us a macro lence to get a good picture of the flowers. Its the only way to see them properly and that might be the reason they are a bit neglected as a species. I do not think there is a great demand for them, except from a few "geeks" like myself .

I had one of the Ornithocephalus species many years ago.
I believe it was an O. inflexus.
The leaves had a neater fan shape to them.
Such a cute little thing.
I could not get it to re-bloom.
In fact, it ended up dieing on me.
It didn't like the dry winter household air in Alaska.
A terrarium sounds like the right place for it.

I purchased mine from Andy's Orchids.
It's been a while.
They might not have it any more.
