Floral Candy
Mediocalcar versteegii is a small species from New Guinea with very brightly colored flowers:
For a picture of the plant in flower and a complete description see: Orchids in Bloom: Mediocalcar versteegii 'Mountainside'

Better known is the related species, Mediocalcar decoratum, which is orange and yellow.

This Genus I'm really going to have a good think about now.... They're speaking to me!
"Acquire me!"
Looking at it again, it looks to me like it should be in a Mario Brothers game

That's a new one! Love it!
The other species I like even more than this one- it's smaller, but covered with little candy-corn like flowers.

Ron, nice versteegii! Have you seen M. decoratum with variegated leaves? It is nice to look at even if it is not in bloom.

I have not and it really sounds like a cool plant! Is it available anywhere?

Ron, I don't know who has that variegated one for sale. I got mine through a trade three years ago. It was a small piece but it is getting big enough now for me to see how beautiful the plant can be.
If you want, I can trade a piece of it with you in the future.

I'd appreciate it, Tom, if you'd put me down for a piece.
