I have really fallen back in love with orchids and I have an very small collection, only 4 at the moment, with only two flowering.
Here is one that I bought just today and couldn't wait to show lol. It is huge, the pictures don't do it justice, so next to it is my phalaenopsis orchid just to show how big it is!
It is just plain white but I loved how big the flowers were so I bought it. I am UNSURE of it's species (sorry I am new to orchids). I can't wait till it all flowers it sort of reminds of The Great Gatsby which had these orchids and some amazing other ones, if you haven't watched it just watch it for the orchids lol, its an fantastic film too.
It's roots were also looking a little silvery so I watered and sprayed it with some orchid mist and they are plump and green now.
Then my 2nd orchid that a got a couple of weeks ago, which was the only species of its kind in my local garden center is the phalaenopsis orchid which I fell in love with its shape and yellowy-green tint and orange markings.
It has a great moss base, which retains moisture on the top. I am spraying it with orchid myst every 2 days, spraying the leaves moss and roots, i hope that this is okay. It looks great and has flowered really good and still has loads of buds to open (10+) and has lots of growing stems/ lots more growth so it will look great, i just hope that the orchid myst is not harming it and that i am looking after it okay.
Also about my 2 other orchids, they are the most common type, purple and not very exotic but I don't know the species and they haven't flowered yet, but I have had them from last year and somehow kept them to grow more buds which look they will open up soon, I will have to do more research on how to keep an orchid and make it rebloom and get more buds ect... as one of my orchids that hasnt bloomed yet has good roots while the other has very dry roots which don't seem to take water as they are like paper and not hard at all.
I must learn the art of growing orchids, this forum should be a great place to do so.
