Stanhopea Stand - Orchid Board

Decided to make use of a decorative stand that I had sitting around with a fake fern on top. Trashed the fake fern and hung many of my stanhopeas, coelogynes, and a few other hangers. All in the interest of maximizing my space of course.

Still room for a few more if I cram them in a bit tighter!

Brenda - Great set-up, I assume you grow them out of doors during the summer blooming season?

Hi Glen,

Yes, I have just brought them in and had to find a spot for them. They summer in my arbor which is a large wooden structure with lattice covered in wisteria and morning glorys to give them adequate shading. They seem to thrive outside and I hate having to bring them in, I envy your climate!

Hi Brenda! Are you able to get your Stanhopeas to bloom? I grow my radiosa very similarly to how you seem to be growing, and it is absolutely HUGE, but not a single flower... just tons and tons of growths! Should I water more in winter and slightly reduce watering in summer? (I've been doing the opposite) Whats the trick???

Hey Elliot.

Tons of new growths is great news. I do quite the opposite, water like crazy all summer while they are sprouting new growths and in winter dry out a bit more. I let them get almost completely dry between waterings. Seems to work for me so far. I must admit though, I have just recently become fascinated by stains, and probably 1/2 of my collection of them has been accumulated in the last year or so. I have about 15 total, although some are just babys and will be a few years to flower. Good luck.
