Due to difficulties in finding enough of the orchids (for the final poll) to go around for the current 34 US members, sign up is now closed. I hate to do this, but otherwise there may not be enough plants!
As some of you know from another thread, we've been kicking around the idea of getting our traditional spring member project underway.
This year I will be organizing it, seconded by Natalie and Paul.
To keep things simple, I think it would be best to keep it down to one plant again. It should be an intermediate grower, so that temperature requirements don't pose problems for too many people.
Since Rosie did such a great job explaining everything in last spring's sign up thread, I copied a lot of it here.
What's it all about?
In a nutshell, for those who have not taken part before the idea is for everyone to buy the same plant at around the same time, then compare notes on how they are doing. One great thing about it that I really like is that it may be a plant that you would never have considered growing before, and I discovered several great species through these projects.
Once a plant is selected, you purchase it and share everything about it. What it looks like when arrived, how you intend to grow it. Conditions, ect. It's great fun and you just may learn a thing or two. From start to purchase can take a month or two to allow as many people as possible to take part.
In the past a couple of the projects have also been competitions, but we'll just be doing this one for the fun of it
The process:
1. Compile participants list (sign up by replying to this thread)
2. Take plant suggestions and compile a list of plants that fit the criteria
3. Vote for final selection
4. Purchase final selection
5. Share your new arrival, growing conditions, care tech., success or failure
6. Have fun!
