I'm interested too.
It should be interesting to see the differences in growing patterns and environments !! I don't do well with Catts though. Let me know what the choice is---

Hi Phallgirl, Under the topic Contest and Poll, there is a sticky thread that has the approved list, I have added it here

Hi,
Availability of Barkeria and Miltonia is OK, but I have Milt flavescens and it becames HUGE when well grow...
Dendros are the problem, they aren't popular in Brazil, very difficult to find, I'll try my friends at ecoorquideas , they are comming back today from SBOE.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a great weekend! I unfortunately will not be able to join the chat that is this Tuesday, but I trust everyone's judgment. Perhaps I can join the next chat if there is to be one.

Welcome to the project, Phallgirl
On Thurs Aug 2, I'll be posting a poll which will include the top ten choices...we'll need you to vote in that poll
(and you are welcome to suggestion a small, intermediate growing plant along the way ) and once we have all the participating members' votes, we'll know what plant wins.

Hi Becca,
I think we'll have one more after this Tuesday's...but it seems like we've reached what might be the end of the line already! We do have some beauties to choose from, though
************************************************** *****************************
These are the plants we will be discussing in the next chat...
Pescatorea wallisii - (Dorothy, cb977)
IOSPE PHOTOS
Available in Canada
Available in Europe
Available in Brazil - Delayed
Epidendrum pseudepidendrum - (gixrj18, cb977, shakkai)

Available in Brazil
Available in Canada
Cattleya forbesii - (gixrj18)
Cattleya Orchid Source - Cattleya forbesii Species Orchid

...there are more on the tentative plant list but they are unavailable in one location or another so we're going to take them out of the runnng...agreed, everybody?

I agree that 10 to choose from is an OK amount and we should only include plants that are available to everyone.
However, many of us are talking about traveling companions--so--if some of us wanted to, we could purchase a second orchid from the list that isn't available to all and have it as a second project or "Orchid Project #4-A".
For instance, I just love the Phal hieroglyphica but it appears that it is not available to everyone. There is quite a long list of members who voted for it to be on the approved list. Some of us could also purchase that one too (or a different one, etc.)
It is just a thought--might be too much work, but something to think about.

Great idea! It's something that could be put together as a side project for those that get it....more like mini projects amongst our members.
Traveling companions will be in question...depending on what vendor we decide to go with for the winner. If the vendor we choose doesn't carry the Phal hieroglyphica (just an example) then it wouldn't be a TC
My hope is that with all the research that we've done, orchids we normally wouldn't have looked at on our own have caught our attention and we now have a new list of orchids to experiment with when we want to
I want to prepare everybody for what could be a surprise:
Don't think that the plant in the top ten that has the most votes will automatically be the favorite...that's what we thought last time and we were all surprised by the final outcome

I agree that we should only have orchids that are available to everyone on the top ten if we can swing it. I hate to leave people out. I hope I can make the next chat after this Tuesdays, I will be out of town this weekend again so if it is held then, that will leave me out of it again...but if it is early the following week....then I should be able to make it, but if I can't make the next meetings, I don't think I have a problem with the orchids that are on our current list

Susanne--
I'm glad you like to idea! I think it solves some of the issues.
You have already compiled a list of the orchids that are not available to everyone, so the work on that list is really already done.
