We will have a few chats regarding the orchids we're interested in...and then choose the top ten for our poll. I think two weeks should do it so our first chat is Thurs July 19 and the final poll will be assembled and posted 2 weeks later, which will be Aug 2.

The top ten will be comprised of the plants with the most names listed next to them on our tentative list.

Thanks--this is my first project.
Hi Khill

I will move plants suggested here into the Tentative List. If you like any of the ones listed so far, let us know and I'll add your name to the master list of plants. If there are others you'd like to put up for consideration, list them here.

Is there a prize for the first one killed? Or just the first bloomed?

Dorothy, thanks so much! I just been doing something similar. I've spent the last couple of hours looking at websites in various countries. As a side note, if something is available in Germany, it is something that I should be able to order. (and vice versa)

I'd like to vote a preference for the following:
Laelia tenebrosa - I just hope that I can find it, so far no luck, but I'm going to keep trying!

Bletilla striata - though I know that others already grow this.

Leptotes unicolor or bicolor - both look to be good ones that it would be interesting to try.

Masdevallia tovarensis - this would be my first choice from the current list.

Cochleanthes discolor.

If Maxillaria tenuifolia is too large, what about Maxillaria vernicosa? Its a mini.

Or maybe Trudelia cristata (syn. vanda cristata): medium sized plant, fragrant, long lasting flowers!

I'd love to try a Dracula - its one of the Pleuros that I don't have any of yet. But I' struggling to find a species that is available in the various countries. And, as if the list isn't already long enough... has anyone considered Bulbophyllum or Cirrhopetalum? I'd love to have an excuse to try one of these.

Thanks for pointing out Akerne. I've looked at their site quite a few times, but I've never ordered from them... yet!

This is fun!

Me too! The more I look, the more I find that I would like to try...

I can see several 'travelling companions' coming along with whatever plant we decide to do for the project. Its irresistable!

The prize is the sense of satisfaction one of us will feel

OK--

My favorites so far from the tentative plant list are:

Dendrobium chrysotoxum
Leptotes bicolor
Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica
Paphinia Majestic

I don't have any on the list, so really any of them are OK. I'm so new at this I just hope we choose one that isn't a difficult grower/bloomer!

But...it is going to be nearly impossible to find a 'chid that none of our participating members (46, so far!) have. The top ten 'chids on the list with the most members names attached will be put into our final poll.
There's nothing wrong with having more than one of a particular 'chid, if that is what happens

I have 3 or 4 of the ones listed already...but if they are the winner...I'll get another
Thought in the past project none that we had in our collection but with so many, it would be exhausting to find one that all are happy with without it being in ones collection.

I love the list so far, any Aerangis listed works for me and what a beauty Paphinia Majestic...keeping it small ...
