I have a suggestion....something that I don't usually grow but I am willing to try. It is masdevallia tovarensis, small plant with white flowers...very cool looking!!

That's a cutie, Wally

Here is another beauty I would like to have on the list if others like it:
Cattleya dowiana:
|
I agree with Ross on this one...dowiana is kind of large for our purposes.
Gorgeous...but can't find it anywhere!

Sue, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I went through the tentative list you just posted. Only a handful are available in Canada. Those include:
Aerangis citrata
Dendrobium chrysotoxum
Epidendrum stamfordianum
Bletilla striata (don't a lot of members have this?)
Phalaenopsis schilleriana
Brassovola nodosa
|
Todd, it's so nice to have a Canadian counterpart in this
Thank you
We've only started throwing names around...we've got time. This project is going to be a lot more difficult but we'll take it a day at a time. Unfortunately, some members may decide to drop out...and some may have no choice if they can't acquire the plant.
Lete's hope for the best

I think we should hear from our overseas and northern brothers and sisters and get an idea of what is available to them.
Todd - give us some more suggestions

Susanne, Dorothy
I think the better way to keep the people (outside US) in the Project is to choose a species. Awarded hybrids are nice but can be founded only in selected nurseries, and for us overseas it would be impracticable.
Dendros and Bulbos are genus with hundreds/thousands different species with completely different requirements, so I think are not good choices. Coelogynes have the same problem.
Catt-alliance orchids are friendly and I like many suggestions, unfortunatelly I have some of them (L. tenebrosa). C. harrisoniae is a good choice, is not a mini but compact, very similar to C. loddigesii
Stan embreei I have also, and lots of another Stans.
For me the better name is Cattleya harrisoniae, but Masdevalia and Vanda could be nice too.

We've gone for species in all three previous projects and will probably go that way again...we'll figure it out during our chats
