Spring 2011 Project - Plant Suggestions

Has anyone in the USA got experience of Marble Branch Farms. Is this a vendor we can use for the project. I'm only willing to use it if some OB members have experience of them.

Most of my Cattleya-alliance species and hybrids come from them. They're always one of the vendors at our local orchid show (coming up next weekend) and I've got a small preorder placed with them.

I recommend them highly; their quality is great, prices are always very low, and they usually throw in interesting bonus plants for orders of more than a few orchids. I got a nice little Broughtonia sanguinea (a pinkish-red one, not the splash-petal type they have now) as a bonus plant with two $10 seedlings when my OS took a field trip to their nursery last year.

If Bro. sanguinea is chosen for the project and Marble Branch doesn't have enough in stock, H&R in Hawaii would be a good option for a large project order; they usually carry 3-4 color forms of the species.

What is the opinion on this one? I get the impression it's a bit cold growing, does anyone have experience with it to say if it can really grow in intermediate conditions?

I've put it in the list at the momment, but would like opinions.

I already killed two of them ... They are obviously (IMO) cool-cold growers...

If people like Barbosellas, I would suggest Barbosella cogniauxiana (Syn. Barbosella handroi), which likes intermediate to warm temps... (and high humidity!) IOSPE PHOTOS

Thanks Ramon, that was the impression I got from the research I was doing tonight. I think I'm going to move it to the too cold section.

Me too, I like this one. I got it for one of the past OB projects, but it got virused and died. Need to get another one!

Hate to burst everyones bubble but we used Sedirea japonica in project 6.Rosie maybe you should post the previously project plant list to the top of this thread.
