Cool Becca! When did it start it's new spike? I wonder if some of us got more mature plants than others. I honestly don't think my culture is any better than anyone elses. I do know that mine bloomed once before I got it. I could see the remnants of an old spike when I repotted it. Does anyone else have the ugly little black spots on the leaves? Mine came with them and while the new growth looks better some of them are starting to get them too. I'm wondering if it's a humidity issue.

Well, I can tell you from experience, that they do NOT like water drops sitting on their leaves. I had to snip off an ugly leaf with spots recently. The seem to get those spots quite easily. It's not the high humidity but the misting that I think did my leaf in, along with not enough air circulation. And I had pretty darn good air circulation but have increased it.

I've since added a bit more moss around the roots and increased the light and air circulation. . .that's when I got my new leaf and new root tips.

Yay Becca! I think I will mount it to the cork then. Hopefully that will be the last change I make to it for awhile. I wish I had a spike. I didn't even get one the first time!

Congrats quiltergal on the spike!

Mine has been absolutely struggling. I actually took it out of the pot today and mounted it on a piece of wood with some live spanish moss and spagnum under the plant. I'm glad to hear from others that it is a somewhat difficult plant to make happy, as that has been the case with mine.

It has lost most of the larger leaves that it came with and has grown some new ones that are very, very small. It also has a new plant shoot growing on it now. Probably because the original is struggling so much.

I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.

Gwen I have noticed as well that it does not like water drops sitting on the leavesl. I lost a leaf recently and another is on the way, but the newer leaves look ok to me so I am not concerned and the roots are looking great. I have great air circulation as well. I am going to try and hang the mount so it won't get so much of the mist from the misting system on it, maybe that will help more. I noticed mine had bloomed previously as well.

I'm not sure this is the correct place for this update.
I finally have a spike, at first I thought it was a root, this morning I was watering and saw this long green spike and jumped for joy.
Now how long till it blooms?

Yup - spike. Takes a while to fully develop the buds, etc. I'd hazard a guess at a few weeks to a couple months. Mine is doing this also (4 spikes.)

I don't think yours is to hot, as mine has been growing in 85-95*F and 30-40% humidity. I do water twice a day, once in morning and once at night,it just took a long time for a spike.
