Maxillaria tenuifolia (Project 11 - Summer 2010)

Unfortunately we are limited by our not so nice northern European weather. Watering so often would kill them for sure. I know that Mauro (Rosim_in_BR) has such a giant specimen, but he's in Brazil! Conditions are hardly comparable, lol.
Last year mine was in a spot that got full sun most of the day, assuming that it was sunny weather. Which there wasn't much of last year... So no blooms

Very true... that guy I was talking about was in Florida. Lol
You guys have weather that alot of the gardeners here in SoCal envy... believe it our not we can't grow most of the plants you can...
What the low temperature wise for this plant?
We definitely have blazing sun and warm tropical like weather for most of the year.... so putting outside might be my best bet.

The Orchidwiz data for it is 1500-2000fc of light, and the summer temperatures in habitat are mid 80s(day), mid-high 60s(night). In the winter these averages go down to mid 60s and high 50s. But it's an adaptable plant, and people grow it warmer than that just fine.

That's alot lower than full sun lol...
It seems like a really hardy easy plant...

It seems it will have to come in in the dead of winter.

No, not that bright, but light seems to be the only limiting factor left. It's watered well, fed often, good temperature... And growing like a weed! Let's hope 2013 is a bit sunnier!

I have to agree.. based on what I've read they need alot more light to bloom.
I can certainly see it growing at those light levels though.
In my limited experience with it it's come across as pretty much impossible to kill.

I too have a few "fatter/plumpier" bulbs on mine... well, fingers crossed we get to see some blooms in 2013 !
But Ill Keep at it !
I have to say that I bought an Onc sphacelatum 7 years ago and it has finally spiked (just when I was thinking tof giving up) so I beleive persistance rewards.... in the end...my next prob is I'm moving 300 Kms south and not sure I'll not damage the spike..

Keep it healthy and eventually it will bloom when it adapts..is what I believe although ...can be LONG.........

My project plant (a regular Maxillaria tenuifolia) has bloomed in the past... not very floriferous, but it has bloomed

however, it's TC was a Max. tenuifolia var. yellow... this one has grown very well, but has refused to bloom all this time... until today and yes, the coconut fragrance is just amazing as well

Looks great!! I can smell it from here, lol. Isn't it a bit out of season though?

My plant is growing very well this winter, but that seems to be the only thing it does. Crossing my fingers for some blooms this year.

Very,very nice Ramon! Glad you got it to bloom and cool to know that this one too has the coconut scent.
