That actually sounds great! Thank you for helping work out the kinks in my plan.
I think it's very fitting to place ties on the poll, and that would also give people more choices.

Then why are we researching all these orchids if you only want to have a poll of 3?
Also keep in mind that if a canadian person joins the project, then the plant list shrinks down to 4-5 candidates.

Well, we are seeing if we could have everyone on the project rate each orchid suggestion, then we average out the scores to pick the top 3 (or more depending on ties) so that everyone has a say in the plants chosen at the end.

Correct. It ends up with a majority more reflective of the group's interest as a whole.

i dont think its to limiting, because everyone as the chance to rate each one. its not like 3 are just being picked by dave or something
and if someone from canada joins, than we can just put the 4 or five in the poll, or do the rating system

I could set up a poll with all the plants and have everyone participating to pick there favorite 10. Then make a final poll for the top 10. Then have everyone pick there favorite 2. this will help to eliminate ties. and the ONE with the most votes is the project plant. What do you all think?

Short. simple. easy to remember. I LIKE it.
Anyways, is it just me or does it seem like the suggestion to participant ratio is a little different this time around?

Maybe so but we seem to have more people discussing, researching and suggesting and that is what it is all about.

We use to go to a chat room and pick the final plants for voting. But it proved that only the one's available for chat where involved in choosing the final picks. This way everyone gets to vote. We have 17 choice's without Ramon's suggestions. Once they are added I think we should start the first poll. Does that work for everyone?
