I think I may have to agree with Ramon on this. We started the project with the Canadians, it would seem a bit unfair to dump them now that we've started, even if it means NOT getting all the plants from Andy's.
That being said, maybe we should let the Canadians decide for themselves what they prefer!

Let's hold up for a second...I didn't say that our Canadian friends were automatically out of the project, it's something that needs to be discussed among the participants.

There aren't many vendors who will be able to supply 56 members in the U.S. with the same plant.

The only way that it might work out is if the U.S. players order their plants from any vendor of their choosing (with no discounts)...but even that is not a guarantee that there will be enough to go around.

Out of the large list I got from Andy, only 3 of them are available in Canada. We have other plants to discuss and hopefully we'll be able to find something that everybody has access to BUT we have to think realistically here...there are 65 other folks involved (and no, we have never made "being available in Australia" a part of the projects in the past) and in my opinion, it's not fair to limit the masses to 3 choices in a project with this many people participating.

We need to have more than 3 plants in the final poll and if we can't come up with a U.S. vendor that can supply all of us with a plant that is available in Canada, then we need to think about the possibility of what I originally suggested.

It's not something I want to do...but it might be something that needs to be done

Okay, this might go in the stupid question category, but having never participated in a project before I'll just assume there are no *stupid* questions.

So: what happens if the project plant ultimately chosen is one you already have? Some of us are restricted to fairly small growing areas, and I know I'd be reluctant to sacrifice a few inches of precious space to duplicate a 'chid I'm already growing...

There's no such thing as a stupid question...ever...anywhere...on Orchidboard!

It would be very close to impossible to choose a plant that nobody playing has.

We have to go according to what wins and if any person for any reason does not want to continue to the next step, that is totally understandable.

Maybe if there are enough folks who are in the same situation as you, there could be a group that gets the 2nd highest vote winner instead of the first?

Don't really know, we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

All I know for sure is that after this project, I'm passing the reins along to somebody else...I'm exhausted (even with all the wonderful help that everybody has given, it's still too much for me these days)

Well this doesn't sound promising from the Canadian perspective. I hope a plant which is available to everyone can be found.

I suggest we proceed with the project as started. We have about 30 plants that at last check were available in the US, Canada and EU (see p 4 of this thread).
With all the talent here, I know we will solve any little problems that arise.
I'm still excited.

I fell in love with Pescatorea lehmannii but I used the custom search for EU vender and it returned no matches does this mean it isnt available across the pond?

I had already looked for it already, including searches in nurseries that didn't work with the search engine, and got nothing. BUT, right now I realised that I forgot to check one nursery, and luckily they have it!! The only issue with it is the price. (35€!)

Also, they have a minimum mail order of 75€, if you don't reach it they tack on another 10€ fees. But if this orchid makes it we could always do a group order if it comes out cheaper that way...

Thank you Camille I am sorry I didnt realise you had searched for it and yes OUCH that is expensive when we add shipping to that also.
