This is exactly why we can only take into consideration the information we get from our resources such as Orchidwiz, IOSPE or any of the other places we go to for details...a person's solo experience with any particular chid varies too much.

Sue how were you keeping your luteo alba?? I keep all of mines under the covered porch which allows them to get pretty good morning sun and since they are mounted I water them daily. My luteo alba is putting out new leaves and the citrata is budding and the biloba that I purchased from Dana is loving it !!!!

Default Andy called! YAY!!!

I spoke to Andy from Andy's Orchids a little while ago. He gave me a list of plants that should fit our criteria (we will, of course, do our own research) and best of all, he has enough quantities of each listed to supply the entire project

I saved links to either Andy's page or to the IOSPE site for each one but haven't done any research at all on them yet. I want to confirm availability in all locations before we put any time into posting the growing info for each...

Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Dendrobium - aberrans
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Dendrobium - hasseltii
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Dendrobium - rigidum
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Domingoa - haematochila
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Amesiella (Angraecum) - minor
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Bulbophyllum - laxiflorum (Java)
IOSPE PHOTOS
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Encyclia (Cattleya) - citrina
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Holcoglossum - kimballianum
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Isabelia (Neolauchia) - virginalis
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Laelia - fournieri
IOSPE PHOTOS
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Masdevallia - nidifica
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Maxillaria - arbuscula
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Oberonia - toppingi (Philippines)
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Oncidium (Tolumnia) - prionochilum
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Tuberolabium (Saccolabium) - rhopalorrhachis
Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Oncidium (Tolumnia) - pulchellum

IOSPE PHOTOS

The few that do not have an Andy's page are plants that he does have in high quantities but for some reason, I can't find them on the site

He also told me he has enough Leptotes bicolor but the only one I see listed on the site is unicolor. I don't know if the site is wrong or if Andy just said the wrong one

By the way, he has about a dozen L bradei for anybody interested in it as a TC

He also has an awesome plant that is above our price range but what a beauty! Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Encyclia (Cattleya) - citrina

We should try to gather the info on these plants quickly so we have something solid to discuss Thursday night.

************************************************** ******************************

EDIT: WE HAVE A BIG PROBLEM!

Out of all the plants listed in this post, as far as I can tell, only the Den rigidum and Den aberrans are available everywhere!

The Isabella virginalis, Dryadella elata, Masd nidifca, Holco kimbilliana, Den haseltii, Domingoa haematochila, Onc pulchellum, L liliputana and the L fournieri are all available in Europe but not Canada.

I'll let you guys have a run at it before I remove everything else from the list but this is not good

With a total of 71 people participating and the biggest problem being availability in Canada, I think the 6 Canadian members may have to put together a mini-project of their own. We can't hold back 65 people in an effort not to upset 6

Hey Sue, I'll bet that the ones you can't find on his site just aren't there. When I went to their booth at the Pacific Orchid expo, Buck (I think that's who it was) said that what's on the website is only a fraction of what they've got.

That Dendrobium rigidum is interesting. Andy's site says it is a frequent bloomer, easy to grow, and fragrant. Also good for windowsill culture.

Dendrobium - aberrans -- OIOT
Dendrobium - hasseltii -- NA
Dendrobium - rigidum -- OIOT
Domingoa - haematochila -- NA
Amesiella (Angraecum) - minor --PARMT
Bulbophyllum - laxiflorum (Java) --NA
Encyclia (Cattleya) - citrina -- NA
Holcoglossum - kimballianum -- No Match
Isabelia (Neolauchia) - virginalis --NA
Laelia - fournieri --- NA
Masdevallia - nidifica ---NA
Maxillaria - arbuscula --NA
Oberonia - toppingi (Philippines) --NA
Oncidium (Tolumnia) - prionochilum --NA
Tuberolabium (Saccolabium) - rhopalorrhachis - NA
Oncidium (Tolumnia) - pulchellum --NA

I only found 3 to be available in Canada:

Dendrobium - aberrans -- OIOT
Dendrobium - rigidum -- OIOT

Both were already on our list.

And then : Amesiella (Angraecum) - minor --Paramount has limited quantities and list this as - Originally labeled as Angraecum, Amesiella philippinense is the only species in its genus.

I personally disagree with this... we started a project together and we should stay together... we all knew since the beginning that Canada was a limiting factor and we accepted as it is... at thi spoint in time, I think it is unfair to say that "because we do notfind the plant we would like in Canada, they should start their own project"

we can start the project with the plants available in all regions (good point for quiltergal regarding Australia - I do not know if any australian are participating), and if all USAmericans and European want a different plant, then a parallel projectcan be started for them...

just my !
