Congrats on this one, this is one of my favorite orchids ! Not sure if you know, but it is fragrant too! Mine just dropped its final flower, but was in bloom for about 60 days in all. For me, it has been a reliable bloomer!

I had hoped by now that she would've opened up her blooms, and I'm still hopeful I'll get a surprise when I get home. But, as of right now the buds just keep getting bigger and thicker, so I'm looking forward to a heck of a show.

Glad I could help! I'm still hoping the 2 new growths it's put out in recent months will spike as well. But the time from spike to bloom is soo.... long... Grr!

Flowers! Finally!
Well, I'm stoked for the buds to finally open, but I'm a little frustrated as to part of them. I have no idea what happened, but it would appear that the buds that were developing went blackish/purple at the tips of the bud. I've never seen this before, so any thought on it would help.
Other than that, here is one of the blooms almost open... and I got a new surprise, as one of the newer growths has a spike just starting as well! Yes!

Could be a few things...lack of humidity, nutrient deficiency, too much light, too hot...any of those sound probable?

I also had a Zygopetalum delivered to me with a spike and buds. After a week or so the buds got brown (or blackish purple as you say) on the bottom and they fell off the spike. After the spike i repotted and fertilized and also swapped the old Sphagnum/Bark mix to mostly Lava / Bark mix. It rewarded me with 5 new growths 2 of which are looking like new spikes. It also came with wrinkled up bulbs which are now plump and pretty.
It seems to me the buds never opened due to lack of humidity since the plant arrived after 14 days and also very low temperatures.
My second Zygo oppened all flowers normaly and is now 2 weeks in bloom filling the room with smell every morning.
