Great growing. My zygopetalum has been sitting there doing nothing for ages. I guess at least it isn't dying either!

the zygos I have had usually when they produce a new growth brings a spike with it indeedy...the problem I think I had with the overly FAST growing was too much light. The spikes grew too fast, budded and when it bloomed had dinky little wrinkly flowers that fell off after a few days deformed as they were...
good luck

Well the first time this one flowered, about last fall or so, the blooms didn't last as long as I'd hoped (about 2 weeks, maybe less). But, given how many new growths its putting out, the spike growing quickly, and it's ability to suck the S/H reservoir dry in about 1 day, I'm hopeful they'll last a bit longer.

Well not yet to blooms, but you can just start to see them. Looks like I may get 4 or 5 depending on what the end of the spike does. It's now almost a foot long. Sorry if it's a bit grainy, took it in a bit of a hurry

Interesting, grats on the spike!
I noticed that my zygo has two 1"-tall pointy growths, each attached to one of the new growths. They look similar to your photos. I hope they're spikes!

Hey Zoo. If it's not at the very base or underneath it probably is a spike. Mine as you can see in the first pic was about 2-3 months old. The new growth was about 8" or so when I first noticed what might be a spike. Post some pics and we'll compare.

I had to update the success of this bloom after my Psychopsis papilio's bloom aborted. To improve my mood though, the Zygo's spike continues to grow like a weed. Spike is about 1.5 feet long with 6 blooms as of now, and the new growth it's off of has grown to over 2'.
Love this little guy, and here is a pic. Hopefully the next pic will be of the blooms.
